By WENDY MARTIN

In most respects, Saturday’s Catfish Festival was the best one to-date. There were more entries than ever before – 120-plus – according to organizer Ken Freeman. And while the overall biggest fish wasn’t the biggest ever caught here, in general the fish caught were bigger.
“I’ve seen tournaments where a two-pound fish could win a check,” said Freeman. “This time most were six pounds or better.”
In addition to the fish being generally larger, Freeman observed that a number of the catfish caught Saturday were blue catfish, one of the largest species of catfish in North America.
While they are more of a Mississippi River fish, it was speculated that seeing more of them here was a benefit from the high water and flooding that otherwise made the fishing more challenging.
If only it hadn’t rained for most of the day, it would have been the best Catfish Festival Tournament yet.

Rome, GA

Congratulations to the winners and participants in the 2010 Big Cat Quest hosted by Ken Freeman Productions on April 17, 2010.

Over 50 participants spent the day on the rivers of Rome, Georgia hoping for a big catch. 2010 saw three children and three women participate in the tournament. Over 6 different states from across southern and middle America were represented by participants.

As part of the Waterfest X festivities in Ridge Ferry Park, the Big Cat Quest TANK held all fish caught throughout the day. The 53-foot, rolling fish aquarium is a 6,000-gallon simulated natural environment. The tank hosts a variety of aquatic guests, but all were examples of fish living in local waters.

All winners received a cash prize with the first place winners splitting $2,000.
